My Top 4 Podcasts for Artists & Creative Entrepreneurs

Happy Tuesday!

Today I wanted to share some of my go-to podcasts when I'm in need of motivation or inspiration. As artists and designers working on our own, it can often get lonely and be difficult to motivate ourselves. Podcasts are a great way to fill that void and can even help you learn some new skills.

There are so many options these days for podcasts, but there are a few of the ones that I've found to be the most interesting and helpful. I'll outline them below with a brief description of each!

Magic Lessons with Elizabeth Gilbert
by Elizabeth Gilbert

I'm sure many of you have heard of Elizabeth Gilbert, as she is the author of best selling book turned Hollywood movie Eat, Pray, Love. I loved that book when I read it a few years ago, so when I saw Elizabeth's latest book Big Magic, I knew I had to get it. Big Magic talks about the source of our creativity and inspiration and how to have a better relationship with it. She wrote the book and then wanted to keep exploring the topic, so she created the podcast. In the episodes, she helps everyday people overcome hurdles in their way of acting on inspiration.

Some favorite episodes:

  • Se. 1, Ep. 12: Brene Brown on "Big Strong Magic"
  • Ep. 201: "You Have a Screaming, Not a Calling."
  • Se. 1, Ep. 3: "The Thing That You Are Seeking is Also Seeking You"

Art Marketing Action Podcasts from Alyson B. Stanfield and ArtBizCoach.com
by Alyson B. Stanfield and ArtBizCoach.com

This is an old podcast that has not been updated since 2010...however I think it has some great foundational information for artists just starting out. The episodes are also very short in easy to digest pieces, allowing you to get lots of tips at once. It covers advice on anything from writing your artist statement, to how to market your art, and how to diversify sales as an artist.

Some favorite episodes:

  • Share, Don't Sell Your Artwork
  • Determine What You Want From Your Art Career
  • Ignite the Fire in Your Belly

Being Boss: Mindset, Habits, Tactics and Lifestyle for Creative Entrepreneurs
by Emily Thompson and Kathleen Shannon

This is one of my favorite podcasts for business advice as a creative entrepreneur. Emily and Kathleen are not only entertaining, but very raw and real. They have separate creative businesses in branding and web design, so there are many episodes that focus on branding, reaching your ideal customers, and how to price what you're worth. They have full episodes and mini-sodes where they answer specific questions from their fan-base.

Some favorite episodes:

  • #81 - Business as an Artist with Brenda Mangalore
  • #79 - Setting Goals with The Chalkboard Method
  • #63 - Launch Like a Boss
